OUR STORY

THE VINEYARDS

With the first vine planted in 2016, the vines that exclusively supply our wines, now number 5000, split between three plots of land on Bredon Hill.

The first, and largest plot with 4000 vines, sits close to the farm buildings, loam overlying limestone situated in a natural sun trap only 50m above sea level, sheltered from the wind gives the grapes a perfect “terroir”.

The second vineyard, planted in 2018, numbers around 1400 vines and can be found on a steep south-facing slope, greeting you as you enter the beautiful village of Great Comberton.

All three of our vineyards benefit from Cotswold limestone mixed soils, imparting them with a fullness of flavour.

A Good Bunch

THE VINES

We originally planted a mix of Pinot Noir, Bacchus, Solaris, Seyval Blanc, Reichensteiner, and Chardonnay. However, we have found that our site is suitable to accommodate vines that would typically not ripen at the latitude, such as Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. As a result we have planted more of these, whilst reducing the Solaris and Seyval Blanc, which suit colder sites.

THE HILL

Our traditional mixed farm of arable and livestock has been in the family for three generations, encompassing cattle, sheep, fallow deer, and crops, as well as woodland and natural grass meadows.  Stretching down from the top of Bredon Hill to the River Avon, the farm has some of the finest views in England, looking west to the Malvern Hills.  The vineyard adjacent to fields featuring a Woodhenge, Roman Fort, and Bronze age settlements truly is a hidden gem.

With such beauty and history found on our farm we believe in treating the environment with care. Our main farm uses organic low intensive farming methods to allow our produce to be the best quality that nature can provide, whist protecting this area for future generations.

THE OWNER

Deer Park wines, and the farm is owned and run by Mark Steele. Having studied Biology at Oxford University, Mark has run the family farm and, alongside his wife Caron, developed a wedding venue and conference centre. Being involved in several local wine Society's, Mark finally, with the help of friends, started the vineyard you can now enjoy.
